Little Rose of Vinodol - Ružica Vinodola

Ružica Vinodola (Rose of Vinodol) is based on a local custom dating back to the time when the Croatian noble family Frankopan ruled these lands.
At the end of grape harvesting cycle in the Vinodol valley, the most beautiful and most diligent girl harvester was chosen. She was crowned with grape vines and brought to town, at the head of the procession accompanied with music of old folk instruments.
According to the records, this event took place for the last time in the 19th century, in 1880. Today "Ružica Vinodola" is a contemporary festivity inspired by the Vinodol past.
Inspired by the traditional Ružica election and following ancient forms of entertainment, games for the Rose contest are organized and the fair is held promoting contemporary ecological and hand-made products, all accompanied by music and dance.
