Experience the history and beauty of the largest island of the Adriatic which has been a monument to life and culture for over two thousand years. Numerous traces of its rich history can be found here: in the Roman Thermae and mosaics, in early-Croatian churches and Glagolitic monuments or in paintings by Venetian artists. On this Krk tour you will visit the town of Krk, which the Romans use to call "Splendissima Civitas Curictarum" or the splendid town of Krk, the legendary Franciscan monastery on the small islet of Košljun, and the town of Vrbnik, home of the famous white wine Vrbnička Žlahtina.
- Duration: 6 hour(s)
- Location: Island of Krk - town of Krk - Vrbnik - Punat - Košljun
Our Krk tour starts with a ride to the town of Punat, from where we catch a boat to the small islet of Košljun. Here we will visit the Franciscan monastery, one of the greatest cultural museum centres of Croatia with vast collections of ethnography, archaeology and sacral art and an old library.
After this tryst with history, we will visit the town of Krk. The Romans called this town "Splendissima Civitas Curictarum" which means ‘the splendid town of Krk'. Discover why as you walk through the old town where you can see Illyrian ramparts, the Frankopan castle and Krk Cathedral.
After this we will visit Vrbnik, a beautiful old town located just above the sea on a 49 m high cliff, which has a near vertical drop into the sea on its north side. In the green vineyards of Vrbnik's fields is cultivated a very famous white wine, Vrbnička Žlahtina. Here you will have the opportunity to taste homemade prosciutto, cheese and the local wine in a unique tavern.
